ASSESSMENT OF ORAL HYGIENE STATUS AMONG RURAL AREA OF PAME, POKHARA NEPAL
OBSERVATIONAL STUDY
Abstract
Aim: To study the status of oral hygiene among the rural population of Pame, Pokhara Nepal Materials and Methods: An observational study was carried out in Pame, Pokhara to know the status of oral hygiene in rural population during a diagnostic camp held in Kaski district of Nepal. A total of 164 subjects aged between 5-60 years of age were examined for the study purpose and the demographic profile which included age, gender, and caste, association with pain, frequency and aids of cleaning teeth was recorded. The inclusion criteria comprised of those were willing to participate voluntarily in the study and had a pre-signed consent form. A pre-tested questionnaire Performa was used for the collection of data. Performa was already translated into the Nepali language. Descriptive statistics like percentages were used for the analysis by using SPSS software version 16.
Results: Knowledge regarding cleaning teeth and brushing is more in the age group of 20 years and above. Females have disclosed the associated pain factor more commonly as compared to male.
Conclusion: As the time factor was limited the study requires more subjects in a similar type of geographical area to assess both knowledge and practice in relation to behavioural aspect.
